			<h3>3. What are employment opportunities DET/Non-Govt schools</h3>
			<div class="answer">
				<p>To be employed as a teacher in NSW public schools, you must hold a formal teaching qualification from a higher education institution recognised by the NSW Department of Education and Training. The Accelerated Teacher Training Program, targets people with related qualifications. If you are an accredited teacher with approval to teach from the NSW Department of Education and Training, Retraining could provide you with the opportunity to gain accreditation in another teaching area in the minimum period of time.</p>
<p>Hearing impairment</p>
<p>Special education (hearing) teachers’ work with students who are Deaf or are hearing impaired in regular classes and support classes in regular and special schools. Students with sensory disabilities may also have additional support needs.</p>
<p>Following training/retraining in special education hearing impairment teachers are appointed as:</p>
<p>    * an itinerant support teacher hearing, or<br />
    * a support class teacher in a regular school with a specialist class for students who are Deaf or hearing impaired. These specialist classes provide support for young children from three years of age to Year 12.</p>

RIDBC Renwick Centre (Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children) provides postgraduate programs for teachers and related professionals in the education of children who have hearing or vision impairment, including programs in multiple sensory disability and auditory-verbal practice.</p>
<p>The <strong>Graduate Certificate</strong> is a one semester full-time or equivalent part-time program. <strong>The Master of Special Education</strong> is a one year full-time or equivalent part-time program. Distance Education and On-campus study options are available.</p>
<p>RIDBC Renwick Centre, located in Sydney, is affiliated with the University of Newcastle, NSW, and all degrees offered are awards of that University. Research degrees, including <strong>MPhil</strong> and <strong>PhD</strong> are also available.</p>
